These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of portuguesepedia.com and the Portuguesepedia service (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1) Who we are

2) Eligibility and minimum age

The Service is intended for adult language learners.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the Service.

3) Accounts

3.1 Account information

You are responsible for the information you provide when creating your account and for keeping your login credentials secure.

3.2 Personal use only

Your account is personal to you.

  • Do not share your password or let others use your account.
  • We may limit the number of concurrent sessions across devices and browsers, and logged-in sessions may expire after a period of inactivity, after which you will need to log in again.

3.3 Account deletion

You can request deletion of your account by emailing [email protected] from your account email address. Basic members can also delete their account directly from their account page.

We may retain certain records where required by law (for example, billing and accounting records). Our Privacy Statement explains what happens to recordings of spoken conversation practice, and to records of material exchanged with a partner teacher, when you delete your account.

4) Plans and subscriptions

4.1 Basic (free)

We may offer a free “Basic” plan. We currently describe Basic as “for life,” but we reserve the right to change, limit, or discontinue the Basic plan (including features and eligibility) at any time.

4.2 Plus (paid)

The “Plus” plan is a paid subscription. You can choose a monthly or annual billing option.

  • Plus subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing cycle unless canceled.
  • You can cancel at any time from your account.
  • If you cancel, you will typically keep access to Plus features until the end of the current billing period (unless stated otherwise at the time of cancellation).

4.3 Prices and changes

Prices may change over time.

  • A price change typically applies to new Plus subscribers.
  • If we ever need to change prices for existing subscribers, we will notify you by email in advance.

5) Payments and failed payments

Payments for Plus are processed by Stripe.

  • We do not store full card details. Payment method storage (if you choose it) is handled by Stripe.
  • If a payment fails, your subscription may show a pending/unpaid status and you may temporarily lose access to Plus features. In that case, your account may be treated as Basic until payment is successfully completed.
  • You can retry payment from your account.

6) Refunds and right of withdrawal

6.1 14-day refund (no questions asked)

If you purchase a Plus subscription, you may request a refund within 14 days of the start of the subscription, no questions asked.

6.2 No refunds after 14 days

After the first 14 days, no refunds are provided. If you forget to cancel before a renewal, the renewal charge is generally not refundable.

7) AI-powered features

Parts of the Service are powered by artificial intelligence, including explanations, translations, quizzes, summaries, vocabulary suggestions, and spoken conversation practice.

7.1 AI output is not guaranteed to be correct

AI-generated content can be wrong, including about the Portuguese language. It is a practice aid, not authoritative instruction, and it is not a substitute for a qualified teacher. You are responsible for how you use it.

7.2 Spoken conversation practice

Spoken conversation practice is a Plus feature. Basic members get a one-time free trial of limited length. You are talking with an AI system, not a person, and we tell you so before your first session.

  • Sessions require access to your microphone, which you grant in your browser. You can revoke it at any time.
  • Usage is capped. Plus includes a weekly allowance that resets each Monday. The allowance, and how much of it you have left, are shown in the app. The Basic trial is a one-time total rather than a recurring allowance, and once it is used the feature is no longer available on Basic.
  • Recordings are available for a limited time. On Plus, you can replay your own sessions for 60 days, after which the recording and transcript are deleted by our provider and can no longer be played back. A Basic trial session can be replayed only while you remain on the page where the call took place; it is not added to a conversations archive. Details are in our Privacy Statement.
  • We may change the allowance, the trial, the availability window, or the underlying technology, and we may suspend or discontinue the feature.

7.3 Your responsibilities during a session

  • Do not share other people’s personal information during a session, and do not use the feature where other people can be recorded without their knowledge.
  • Do not use the feature for anything other than language practice.
  • Do not attempt to manipulate the AI into producing harmful, unlawful, or off-purpose output, to extract its underlying instructions, or to use it as a general-purpose assistant.

We may suspend access to AI features that are being misused, and reasonable usage limits apply to keep the feature available and affordable for everyone.

8) Partner teachers and Teacher Link

Some Portuguese teachers take part in our partner teacher programme and use Portuguesepedia as a resource with their own students.

8.1 If you connect to a teacher

Your teacher has one link. Opening it connects your account to hers.

  • The connection carries a discount on Plus, monthly or annual, for as long as it holds. The rate in force is shown when you connect and again before you pay, and it is calculated from the current plan price at each charge.
  • It does not combine with any other discount. If you hold a rate of your own, the teacher rate replaces it while you are connected, and your own rate returns when the connection ends. In the uncommon case where your existing rate is better than the teacher rate, we ask you to confirm before anything changes.
  • You can be connected to one teacher at a time. Opening a valid link from a different teacher replaces your existing connection, price included.
  • Connections end. A link is valid for a limited period, and your connection runs with the link rather than from the day you opened it. We tell you before it is due to end, and a replacement link is issued to your teacher in advance. A teacher can also revoke her link, or remove you.
  • You can disconnect at any time from your account page, and your price returns to your own. You can also mute a teacher, which stops her sending you material without ending the connection or changing your price.
  • What your teacher can see about you is limited to the connection itself and a name you choose. See our Privacy Statement.

8.2 If you are a partner teacher

Partner teacher status is granted by us, by hand, on application, and may be withdrawn at any time.

  • It carries complimentary Plus-level access for your own use, with spoken conversation practice excluded. It is not a purchased subscription and carries no refund right.
  • Your link is a bearer link: anyone holding the URL can connect through it. Share it with your own students, and revoke it if you have reason to think it has traveled further.
  • The connected-student list and the ability to send material exist for teaching your own students. Do not use them for unsolicited messaging, marketing, or anything unrelated to your teaching, and do not publish, resell, or distribute your link.
  • If your partner status ends, for any reason, your connections end with it and both sides are notified.

9) Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Share accounts, resell access, or allow others to use your subscription.
  • Copy, download in bulk, scrape, or systematically extract content from the Service.
  • Re-upload, republish, distribute, or sell our content outside the Service without permission.
  • Record, redistribute, or publish AI-generated audio or conversation content from the Service outside your own personal use.
  • Reverse engineer, interfere with, or attempt to bypass technical limits, including usage limits and allowances on both free and paid features.
  • Use the Service to upload malware, abuse the platform, or violate applicable laws.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

10) Intellectual property

All content on the Service (including text, audio, video, lessons, exercises, graphics, and the overall design) is owned by or licensed to Portuguesepedia and is protected by intellectual property laws.

You receive a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for your own learning. This license does not allow redistribution or commercial use.

11) Changes to the Service

We may update, modify, or remove features and content, and we may add new features. We may also change these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and may notify you where appropriate.

12) Availability and maintenance

We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

  • The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, technical issues, or factors outside our control.
  • We may perform scheduled or emergency maintenance that limits access.

13) Third-party services and links

The Service may rely on third-party providers (for example, payment processing and the AI providers named in our Privacy Statement). We are not responsible for third-party services outside our control. Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience and do not imply endorsement.

14) Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We make no warranty that AI-generated content is accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose (see section 7.1).

15) Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Portuguesepedia will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill.

Our total liability for claims related to the Service will be limited to the amount you paid to us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim (or, if you have not paid anything, a reasonable minimum required by law).

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it cannot be limited under applicable law.

16) Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or if required to do so by law.

17) Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to conflict of law rules.

If a dispute cannot be resolved, it will be handled by the competent courts in Sweden, unless mandatory consumer protection rules require otherwise.
