Olá! Today I’m talking about pronomes indefinidos invariáveis. Indefinite pronouns, those invariable, because I made a lesson on variable indefinite pronouns. Today, we are talking about invariable pronouns. Just to recap, pronouns are words replacing nouns, therefore pronouns, so that we avoid repetition. As in she, them, it, these are pronouns. Indefinite pronouns, in specific, are used to refer to people or things in a nonspecific manner.

Like someone, something, nothing, and so on. And then again, within the indefinite pronouns, we have variable pronouns and invariable pronouns. The difference is that variable, again, there’s a video

on variable indefinite pronouns. They agree in gender and number

with the noun they are referring to. So the noun will be feminine or masculine, in singular or plural, and the pronoun will change form to agree in gender and number. Okay? Whereas invariable pronouns, they never change form. It’s just one word, regardless of gender and number. All right. Let’s look at four common indefinite pronouns, invariable.

Alguém, ninguém. Alguém, someone, anyone, somebody. Ninguém is the opposite. No one, nobody. And these are used

for people, when we are talking about people. And then tudo, nada, everything, nothing. These are used to talk about things, not necessarily concrete objects, oftentimes abstract concepts. Let’s take a few examples. Starting with alguém. Está aqui alguém? Is anyone here? Alguém. Ninguém me ouve. Hear. Ninguém, no one. Nobody listens to me. Ninguém me ouve. Tudo. Tudo bem contigo? Are you all right? How are things? Again, not necessarily concrete things. It’s quite abstract in this case, tudo bem contigo? How are you? How are things, right? And the same goes for nada. Nada é tão mau como parece. Nothing is as bad as it seems.

Abstract stuff, right?

Things are not as bad as they seem to be. All right. These are four common

indefinite pronouns, invariable pronouns. Alguém, ninguém, tudo, nada. They never change form.
