De volta ao défice já no próximo ano

O Banco de Portugal estima que o país volte a uma situação de défice orçamental já no próximo ano.

No Boletim económico de Dezembro, divulgado hoje, a instituição liderada por Mário Centeno antecipa que as contas públicas registem um défice de 0,1% em 2025.

O número é bem diferente daquele que é apresentado pelo Executivo, que prevê um excedente de 0,3%.

E para 2026 e 2027, as estimativas são ainda menos simpáticas. O Banco Central diz que o país vai registar um défice de 1% em 2026 e de 0,9% em 2027.

Questionado pelos jornalistas sobre o facto de as projeções serem menos optimistas do que as do governo ou do Conselho de Finanças Públicas, Mário Centeno responde que o que faz enquanto governador do Banco de Portugal é apenas aconselhar o Executivo.

The Bank of Portugal estimates that the country will return to a situation of budget deficit next year.

In its December Economic Bulletin, released today, the institution led by Mário Centeno anticipates that the public accounts will record a deficit of 0.1% in 2025.

The figure is quite different from the one presented by the Executive, which predicts a surplus of 0.3%.

And for 2026 and 2027, the estimates are even less friendly. The Central Bank says the country will record a deficit of 1% in 2026 and 0.9% in 2027.

Questioned by journalists about the fact that the projections are less optimistic than those of the government or the Public Finance Council, Mário Centeno replied that what he does as governor of the Bank of Portugal is only to advise the Executive.
