Quem dá e tira para o inferno gira.

Às vezes nós somos generosos e oferecemos coisas ou fazemos favores a outras
pessoas. E isso está muito bem. A generosidade é uma virtude.

Mas também devemos ser consequentes. Quando se dá alguma coisa a alguém, não se deve depois tirar. O que está dado, está dado. Daí este ditado: Quem dá e tira para o inferno gira.

Às vezes acontece que nós somos generosos com alguém e depois esse alguém,
por alguma razão, acaba por nos magoar. É chato, claro. Mas também não está bem ir buscar aquilo que demos como forma de vingança ou como forma de mostrar ressentimento.

Agir dessa forma, para além de mostrar falta de caráter, só vai aumentar a tensão e o desentendimento entre as partes. Quando damos, damos, independentemente do que venha a acontecer no futuro.

Sometimes we are generous and offer things or do favors for other people.
And that’s all very well. Generosity is a virtue.

But we must also be consistent. When you give something to someone, you shouldn’t take it back. What’s offered is given. Hence the saying: He who gives and later wants it back will go to hell.

Sometimes it happens that we are generous with someone and then they end up hurting us for some reason. It’s sad, of course. But it’s also not right to take back what we’ve given as a form of revenge or a way of showing resentment.

Acting like this, apart from showing a lack of character, will only increase the tension and disagreement between the parties. When you give, you give, regardless of what happens in the future.
