Não sei, mas para já o que houve foi um incidente diplomático de alguma gravidade.

Ontem o Vox, como se sabe, reuniu em Madrid milhares de pessoas para ouvirem alguns dos líderes mundiais da extrema direita. Entre eles o recém-eleito presidente da Argentina, Javier Milei, que teve a intervenção mais polémica do dia quando, no meio do discurso, a atacar o socialismo, chamou corrupta a Begoña Gómez, a mulher do primeiro-ministro espanhol, Pedro Sanchez.

Consciente de que tinha pisado o risco, Milei defendeu-se preventivamente. Diz o tipo de coisas que raramente se ouvem de alguém com as suas responsabilidades políticas porque a guerra cultural assim o exige. Foi essa a justificação do presidente argentino.

As declarações de Milei suscitaram logo uma resposta fortíssima do governo de Sanchez que chamou a embaixadora espanhola em Buenos Aires para consultas e exigiu um pedido de desculpas imediato ao presidente argentino.

Por isso, o que temos neste momento é uma elevada tensão diplomática entre os dois países.

I don’t know, but for the time being there has been a diplomatic incident of some gravity.

Yesterday Vox, as you know, gathered thousands of people in Madrid to listen to
some of the world’s far-right leaders. Among them was the newly-elected president of Argentina, Javier Milei, who gave the most controversial speech of the day when, in the middle of his speech attacking socialism, he called Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, corrupt.

Aware that he had crossed a line, Milei defended himself pre-emptively. He says the kind of things you rarely hear from someone with political responsibilities because the culture war demands it. That was the Argentine president’s justification.

Milei’s statements immediately provoked a very strong response from the Sanchez government, which called the Spanish ambassador to Buenos Aires for consultation and demanded an immediate apology from the Argentine president.

So what we have at the moment is a high level of diplomatic tension between the two countries.
